I’ve been involved with designing and building spacecraft for over 30 years. When I started, even a telecommunications spacecraft was challenging. Now we think nothing of watching live television from anywhere in the world, in high definition.
From the science point of view, we produced a spacecraft, Giotto, that passed through the tail of Halley’s comet. That was regarded as a great achievement. In 2014 we landed Philae on a comet after a long journey on board the mother ship, Rosetta.
A few weeks ago we launched the Lisa Pathfinder spacecraft. Looking for evidence of gravitational waves, predicted by Einstein.
Always pushing the boundaries of engineering and science.
