Hi, as your question suggests we don’t have control of nuclear fusion to use it to produce power.
Today we use nuclear sources for some missions. Once nuclear fusion is controlled then it could replace the use of fission.
The main source of power in space comes from the sun. We collect the energy with solar arrays. As we move further from the sun, the more difficult this becomes. So we have to use fission. Once fusion is controlled this could also be used.
