Everybody’s job is important. A successful 6-month mission to the International Space Station requires a huge number of people, each with different experience and knowledge. Tim was assigned to his mission in May 2013, so there will have been 2.5 years of planning before his mission starts in December this year. After his 6-month mission, he will return to Earth, where he will undergo post-flight re-conditioning, finish a number of science experiments and have a lot of other responsibilities. As such, in total, people will work on his mission for 3.5 years, with each person performing their specific job at a different time during this period.
Like Jon said, the Space Station program is a great endeavour that can be successful only because thousands of people all around the world work together, in a coordinated way, all for the same purpose! Such great things can be achieved only when we cooperate to reach the same goal.
If any of these persons would stop working or do something wrong, this could result in failure of reaching the objective that we all have worked for for so long. And as such, everyone is important in the same way!
