It can be a bit confusing because a day on Mars is also called a sol ( no capital letter) and all stars with planets are suns, also without the capital letter.
In Latin, sol meant sun/sunlight and Old English borrowed it for various things like the word solar. Am guessing that astronomers got lazy writing ‘ Mars Solar Day’ so they abbreviated it..
