Question: When Tim did his space walk, the other Tim got water in his helmet, has the problem been resolved, could it happen again?

I think this has been fixed 🙂
It could happen again, but there is a good plan to deal with it if it does happen again.

Since Luca’s filled up with so much fluid that he nearly died, they added an absorption pad to the back of the helmet of all the American spacesuits. So that can help. The ridiculous thing is that Tim K’s spacesuit was the SAME spacesuit that got water during Luca’s spacewalk. So really they should put that spacesuit in the rubbish…. Normally they work really great and none of the others have fluid leak problems. There is clearly something wrong with that one.

They repaired it and tested it and thought it was ok. They tried to send up a new suit but it exploded when its cargo rocket exploded in 2015. So they had to use the repaired one for this spacewalk.

I have an update on this! They finally got rid of that bad spacesuit and took it back to Earth so it will never be used in space again! 😀 They tried to make it leak on Earth and couldn’t and it’s never happened in any of the other suits, so unsure what the issue was exactly. Pretty sure it was something to do with bacteria building up and eating away at one of the internal piping bits… it shouldn’t normally happen because they clean them a lot (actually Jeff is doing mega cleaning of other suits this week) but space is hard and stuff like this can happen.
