      Hi DylanA,

A healthy diet consist of around 2000 calories a day and you should aim to eat a good balance of the three main nutrients: protein, fat and carbohydrate.

A healthy amount is to get your daily calories from 20% protein, 30% fat and 50% carbohydrate. We call these the macronutrients.

Of course you need other vitamins and minerals and these can be found in fruit and vegetables. It is recommended you eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Astronauts in space try to follow this as best they can but the food looks very different – it is all freeze dried!

All the astronaut’s food is specially prepared by nutritionists so that they can choose any ‘meal’ pack/tin and they know it has all the energy, nutrients, proteins etc that they need. Then there is extra snack food and that doesn’t help with nutrients but it tastes good 🙂
