0 Question: what does the name of our planet "earth" mean? Keywords: earth Asked by Tanko to Andrea, Charlie 🚀, Col Op, Kirsty, Vinita on 17 Jun 2016.
Kirsty Lindsay answered on 17 Jun 2016:
It means ‘ground’ from the words eor(th)e/ertha’ and ‘erde’ in old English and German.
Andrea Boyd answered on 17 Jun 2016:
Dirt/land/ground.
The word is similar in most languages (at least the ones that I speak) and the word for Earth is the same as the word for dirt/soil/land/ground which is funny because our planet is mostly water!
