Yep- you can fall through the Earth to the core in 18 minutes- it takes ISS 90 minutes to make an orbit.

The BBC did an article on this if you are interested- you can dive all the way to the Earths core in an interactive article.

Joao: Hi Ellie, do you mean, if we dig a whole all the way from 1 side of Earth to the other, passing through the Earth’s center?

If this is what you mean, I’ll try to answer.

Firstly, as you probably know, we are not able to dig so deep. But let’s assume you can. In that case, it would take about 42 minutes to fall through this whole and come out on the other side of the planet. I have to say, it sounds much faster than walking all the way. 🙂

Yes – It’s only about 45mins to fall through the whole Earth if there was a hole! It would take a very long time to walk around the whole Earth: about 9 years
