There is a paradox called Russell’s Teapot- it’s a thought experiment that says if there was a very small teapot orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter, I could claim it’s there, and you could claim it’s not, however neither of us could be proved right because we had no way of detecting a very small teapot in space.
Answering your question is a bit like trying to find the teapot; we may have encountered life and not known it, but because we currently have no proof of extraterrestrial life, or the total absence of extraterrestrial life, we can’t say either way.
