      Ja, ich kann ein wenig Deutsch sprechen!
      (Yes, I can speak a little German)

      …but when I first moved to Germany I did not speak a word and actually I didn’t like learning it at school!

      As a native English speaker most people speak English with me and actually ask for my help checking the English of their research. All the science we do is published in English so speaking it is actually beneficial even though I work for the German Space Agency.
