      The Soyuz has proven to be a highly reliable rocket with one function, launch people into space.
      The Space Shuttle was designed to do much more, launching people and large satellites. It could also return entire satellites to the ground, a unique capability even today. It built the space station.
      With a more complex and ambitious goal, the space shuttle also suffered a higher rate of accidents.

      Today, the Soyuz is still the safest way to travel.
