That is a great theory and actually you and your friend are not the first to think it of it.
While in theory yes, also in theory (and in pratice) nothing can go faster than the speed of light (not even light :p). So with what we know so far, travelling back in time seems to be impossible. Sorry. 🙁
I don’t think this is correct, despite a lot of sci-fi based on that principle alone 🙂
By going closer to the speed of light, time slows. This is called time dilation. However, going beyond does not mean you go to negative time, due to the way the maths work.
…so despite our best efforts to go at, and beyond, the speed of light…you’ll still be late 😛
