Today it is a faster process than years ago.
If you are selected, the first step is to go through Basic Training. This is needed as astronauts are selected from a wide variety of background (military pilots, scientists, medical doctors..). This is about 2 years.
Then when assigned to a particular mission, it takes another 1-2 years of specific training.
In the future we will have space tourism. This will involve just a few days of training as the objectives and time duration will be very different. A bit like training for a airplane pilot and a passenger, today!
