  Inside the ISS the crew is protected from uv light by the metal walls, like being in an airplane at high altitude.
  There are other types of radiation which comes from the Sun which can pass through the ISS and these will expose the crew to a higher chance of cell damage than we have on Earth. Medical experts examine the crew when they return from each mission to make sure they are ok to return. Also the crew wear special radiation detectors while in space, similar to those used by workers at nuclear power stations.
