None of us have actually trained to go into space ourselves. However the new astronauts spend time with fellow ones who have been to space already. I think it must be very useful to learn from someone who has already done it! Like when you are learning new things in class, its useful to have an example of something already done to see exactly how it works and how to do it yourself 🙂
Like Andrew said, we’re not training to go into space. 🙁 But I can say that during my graduate training (when I studied for my PhD), my best friends were my classmates. We were all going through a lot of the same difficult experiences (learning how to be a scientist can be hard), so we formed a pretty good, tight-knit group to support each other. Now we’re scattered around the world pursuing our careers, but we still keep in good contact with each other.
