I have only a distant connection with Tim’s mission. In my previous jobs, I was working on unmanned satellites, and the space medicine we’re studying here in Antarctica will be more for use on future long-duration missions, like a trip to Mars.
But that doesn’t matter though, as we’re all working to advance humanity’s exploration and use of space, even if we’re not all in the astronaut corps!
Being involved in human spaceflight is awesome because it pushes us to the limit of our technological and scientific knowledge. Only by challenging ourselves like this can we learn new things and make new inventions! Human spaceflight is all about expanding our knowledge of our enviornment, finding out what is out there and looking for opporuntity over the horizon.
You can get invovled too – check out Tim’s mission website at https://principia.org.uk/ and click on “get involved”!
Since you asked about human spaceflight! I made a video for you to explain what will happen during Tim’s launch this Tuesday so you can watch live and understand what is happening 🙂
My favourite part of this mission so far is getting to chat about space and science with people like you! While my fellow Astro teammates and I pitch in directly or indirectly with Tim’s mission, chatting with students like you gives me hope that our work will carry on once we’ve all retired.
