The short answer is… YES!! For some reason, bacteria tend to grow faster in space than on Earth. And they seem to be better at forming communities in space than on Earth. There’s tons of microbial surveillance on the ISS to get a handle on just what kinds of bacteria are growing there compared to Earth, but the bottom line is that bacteria caught a ride up there with astronauts and cargo, so the kinds of bacteria on ISS aren’t altogether unexpected in space compared to Earth.
