I would say in general there are definitely more male scientists than females. This is one of the things I am working on to try and change this (have a read of my profile)! Women are equal to men and should be treated the same, and there should definitely be a greater presence of female scientists in the world! For me, talking to you guys will hopefully help to go some way in inspiring more females to join us! 🙂
Good question! There are more male astronauts than female astronauts, but it’s tough to answer if more scientists working on space-related missions are male or female. There are usually more male senior/older scientists than female (for now), but more female junior scientists and students than male, at least in biological labs. My lab is pretty evenly split with 6 men and 6 women.
At the moment, it’s more male. Historically, it was almost all men, for no good reason. Now things are changing fast and there were almost as many women on my course as men when I was last at Uni – so I think that soon many more women will be working alongside the men in all engineering and space jobs! It’s great that they are – there is no reason at all that it should be a man’s job. This is true of astronauts too!
